BaBar Collaboration Statement on the War in Ukraine
We strongly condemn the Russian invasion of Ukraine. We are gravely concerned for the safety of
all people who are affected by the ongoing violence and for our Russian colleagues, academics, and
journalists who oppose this conflict.
We express our solidarity with the Ukrainian people and we encourage governments and international organizations to offer the maximum support to refugees
and to provide the resources that are necessary for this humanitarian emergency. We are also
concerned about the impact of the war on academic cooperation, which plays a very important role
in keeping world peace. Physicists from Canada, France, Germany, Israel, India, Italy, the
Netherlands, Norway, Russia, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States have been working
together since 1993 in the BaBar Collaboration. We have first hand experience on how an
international academic collaboration provides a unique window of communication that generates
mutual understanding and a method to overcome disputes. The BaBar Collaboration is committed to
providing a collaborative working environment without any division among individual members and
will continue to promote peaceful collaboration in science and elsewhere.
