This is an exciting time in
heavy flavor physics and the program is shaping up to be of real interest;
there will be a wealth of new experimental and theoretical results
presented...the Symposium provides
an opportunity to delve into both the
theoretical and experimental aspects of heavy flavor physics in some
detail...the Symposium will be held on the Caltech campus, with one day at the
Huntington Gardens and Library,
a most interesting botanical garden, rare
manuscript library and museum.
31 July 2001 - There will be a
lengthy shutdown (about 33 hours)
of SLAC Central Computing services on 3–4 August for installation of
new power supplies. The outage starts at 3 PM, 3 August. All
systems are supposed to be back by midnight, 4 August. SCS says:
The core network and SLAC's connection to the internet should
stay up throughout the outage. Minimal name service (DNS)
will be available. We can't make any guarantees that this
is enough service to actually be useful; you should not count
on being able to use computing systems during this time.
Batch systems must be drained before machines are turned off, so
that work can complete. Each queue will stop scheduling work
at a time that will allow the longest jobs in that queue to
finish before 3pm August 3.
22 May 2001 - Meeting at SLAC of the
Bagger/Barish joint DoE/NSF panel
(

The last segment of this meeting on Wednesday (starting 4:30) will
be a series of short talks by SLAC users, organized by SLUO.
